Gaudi

A couple of weeks ago I posted about Guerrilla Marketing which I did a presentation about on Monday. We had to do 2 subjects for this presentation relating to modernism and post-modernism, so the other subject I chose was Antoni Gaudi and looking at his architecture in Barcelona. I have a huge passion for architecture and find buildings and their history really interesting. I absolutely love Gaudi's work which I first fell in love with when I went to Barcelona about 4 years ago. All of his buildings are really unique with a fantasy-like feel to them and each one is interesting. I particularly like the way he combines nature into his work and uses his surroundings to create a story with the building. Here are some of his famous pieces of work:

El Capricho, built as a holiday home for a client in Santander, Spain. This was one of his first pieces of work, built between 1883 and 1885

The rooftop of the entrance building to Park Guell

Park Guell Dragon

The covered walkway inside Park Guell. The columns are meant to represent tree trunks growing out of the ground

The mosaic benches inside Park Guell. The bench snakes around the main terrace area representing a sea serpent.

The rooftop ventilation towers of Casa Mila, aka La Pedrera

Looking down into the courtyard on the roof of Casa Mila

Casa Batllo, also known as 'casa dels osos' (house of bones) because the balconies represent human bones.  The building is supposed to represent the triumph of St George over the dragon, with the roof being the dragons back and the tiles its scaly skin, the balconies are the bones of the victims and the tower is St Georges lance

The entrance to Park Guell ( looks a bit like a gingerbread house?)

The roof mosaics in Park Guell
Casa Vicens, built as a home for the owner of a tile factory, the building reflects his profession as it is covered in tiles and ceramics

The balconies of Casa Vicens
Sagrada Familia- started work in 1883 and is still under construction today. The building has an anticipated completion date of 2026, the centennial of Gaudi's death

Here are the visual boards that I made for the presentation, firstly Gaudi and here is also my Guerrilla Marketing one as well. They are nothing special, they were just used to show the photos and what I was talking about.
