King Of Shaves Project and Bargain Crazy Consumers

I have just come back from a really interesting lecture and focus group with Tim Wright, the Commercial Director of King Of Shaves. My next University project is about launching the King Of Shaves brand into the Asian market, so talking to him was extremely useful. It is a group project and we have to write a 12,000 word marketing report so its going to be no mean feat but I am really excited and inspired for it now.

One thing he was talking about, which I found particularly fascinating, is how everything in the UK is focused on price. Think about it, hardly anyone has brand loyalty like they used to. How many people buy exactly the same shampoo every time they run out or the same brand of shaving foam, it is all about what is on offer. The UK is a population obsessed with a good bargain. I know I am completely guilty of it myself. I need a new shower gel and I go into Superdrug and find the cheapest brand that is on offer, I have no preferences! The British consumer is driven by promotions, the rush of getting a bargain and saving money is a drug we can't get enough of. It's not surprising to hear that some products only sell when they are on promotion. A Muller yogurt can increase its sales by 70% when it is on offer as opposed to any other time. It is a constant yo-yo-ing of sales. I take this kind of behavior as completely normal in a modern society where we all want to get the best deal and assumed it was the same all over the world. However, this is not the case. There is no other country in the world that is as obsessed with price as we are. Although it is obviously still a huge factor when choosing a product, many other countries like France, Japan and China are much more focused on the brand policy and the quality of the products. Therefore, it is extremely difficult to be a brand in the UK for the huge price competition going on. And of course, it will only get worse with time with brands trying to sell cheaper and cheaper. What will this mean for the sourcing of the products, and will everything just become smaller and smaller (we all know about the sizes of Cadbury Cream Eggs nowadays!) Will brands forget their morals and just strive to be the cheapest with constant promotion, who knows?!

What do you think? Are you always looking for a bargain and the product on promotion or are you a dedicated brand follower, would be interesting to know!

Now for me, I'm off to research the male Asian shaving market! :)

Aztec Love

My flatmate is OBSESSED with Aztec at the moment, jumpers, nails, bags, it's everywhere, to be honest I'm starting to become as fixated as she is! The winter season comes round and the knit trend is plastered all over the place, with Aztec prints being on the majority of items. Although the trend does seem to come round every year, I think it is bigger and better than ever before right now. Maybe it's because of the fact that a huge number of people are now holidaying in far off places and everyone and their dog are taking gap years to countries where this print originates. Whatever the logic, I know that it is a great trend and will stick around for a while, here are a few of my favorite images of the trend.

My flatmates nails- that's how obsessed she is!!
Here is my Aztec inspired moodboard

There's something so relaxed and hippyish about it and it's so easy to wear. It looks great in summer or winter and I guess seeing these gorgeous foreign designs gets you through the cold, dark, English winter months, knowing that eventually summer will come round again! However you feel about it I think the cultural traveler 'gap yah' look is here to stay!

Versace & H&M

At the risk of being controversial, I have never been a HUGE fan of Versace, however when I heard about Versace's collaboration with H&M I had to have a little look. To be honest, it hasn't really changed my view, there are a few lovely pieces with some beautiful prints and I am sure it will sell very well. However on the whole I'm still yet to be convinced. I also think that the whole high-end designer brands collaborating with high street stores has become so cliche and overdone, its all just left me a bit underwhelmed to be honest, give me something NEW and EXCITING! The full 90 plus collection was launched today and can be viewed in whole here It will be available in stores from the 17th Novemeber What do you think?

Quite like this one...

I'm sorry... but WTF!

Inspiration: Dirty Grunge

I have always been slightly intrigued and obsessed with the rock/grunge look! It's a look that I don't reckon I could pull off myself but secretly wish I could. Here is my current inspiration, courtesy of

boobs boobs boobs... ohhh and I'm on tumblr

I have just finished my 'summer project'...should of really done it during the summer when I had 4 months off rather than waiting until a week before the hand in... but oh well it is all done and ready to be handed in on Friday. Just thought I would share it with you as I want to start showing more of my work and show you guys what I actually do with my life. This one was just a little project to accompany the big project I finished last year all about Bravissimo. I must say I am quite glad it's over now so I will no longer have to be bombarded with photos of all these big boobed women and be filled with jealousy! This small project was a press release and invitation for the launch of the new Bravissimo store I proposed to be opened in New York.

On another completely irrelevant note, I have just signed up to tumblr. Still getting to grips with how to work it, but I'm loving it so far. Have a little gander at my page it you get a chance :)

Holiday, Work, Buddies, Spanish and Ed

First off- HUGE apologies for being very neglectful recently, I haven't blogged in aaages! I feel terrible. Since my last post I have been very busy though (excuses excuses!) I went on holiday to Kefalonia in Greece with the fam, which was really really nice! Here are a few of many of my holiday snaps.

I then had 2 days at home to pack up my whole life before I moved back to Uni and into my new house! :) Very exciting times. I then had a crazy first week back with lots of partying and now I have started back on my course. Today we have been given our groups for our next projects and a LOT of deadlines!! Scary stuff! Although I am looking forward to this year, I have a feeling its gonna be pretty intense on the work front, all preparation my third year I guess! I have also decided to keep myself really busy this year in hope it will make me more productive! I am a 'buddy' for my course, which basically means I help out all the first years, I am starting a Spanish course, which I have been wanting to do for years, and I am doing loadsss of gym classes. On top of all this I really need a job, although that is proving more difficult than first anticipated. Will keep you posted on that one! Anyway, hope you are all well and it wont be as long until my next post! Got to go off to boxercise now! :) xxx

P.S. I cant contain my excitement that I'm off to see Ed Sheeran on Monday! I am literally obsessed with him and cant stop listening to his songs. I am gonna be up there at the front singing the lyrics like a complete loser! I will leave you with one of my faves at the moment (especially love the end bit!)
